Meet the Coaches

Head Coach-Lance Cherry

Geography Teacher

Middle School Volleyball

Lance Cherry, a native of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, began directing the program in 2006 as the Lady Cats Head Softball Coach. During his tenure the Lady Cats have been a perennial playoff team and have made several deep runs in the playoffs. In 2007 the team set a school record for wins with 24 victories.  During his time as Tom Bean’s Coach the program has had 6 All-State selections, 7 academic All-State, 1 TGCA All-Star, 1 All-Star Honorable Mention, 6 players awarded softball scholarships, and numerous All-District/Superlative selections. Previously Coach Cherry coached at Grayson County College (2002-2006), where he served as outfield coach, pitching coach, and director of study hall. In 2002 he assisted with the Lady Vikings volleyball program. During his time at Grayson he assisted in leading the Lady Vikings to four straight Regional Tournament berths. While at Grayson he coached 13 all-conference selections, 9 region ten all-stars, and 1 NJCAA All- American. Over past eight years Coach Cherry has instructed youth softball players with programs such as Frozen Ropes Softball, K.A.O.S Athletics, as well as various other camps and clinics in the North Texas area. He is a graduate of Grayson County College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University with degrees in Health and Physical Education. He is married to Kelly Cherry and they are proud parents of their two year old son Ryon . Kelly teaches Special Education and serves as the Girls Coordinator and Head Volleyball coach at Whitesboro High School.

Assistant Coach-Roberta Jones

Middle School Teacher

Coach Jones has been coaching the Tom Bean Lady Cats since 2008.  She has coaching experience in several sports.  She served as head of summer league basketball teams for two years and head of ASA summer league softball teams for five years.  During those five years, her softball teams produced three League Championships, one League Runner-up title, one League 3rd Place, one League Tournament Championship, and one League Tournament Runner-up.  In addition in 2007, her team was a State Tournament Qualifier. In the middle school Roberta teaches Health/PE and 7th grade Reading. In addition to working with softball, her other coaching duties include assisting the Varsity Lady Cat Volleyball Team while heading up the JV, and Jr. High Girls’ Basketball.  Roberta is a native of Ruston, LA, where she developed her passion for sports playing both basketball and softball through high school.  She attended college at LA Tech University where she was a member of the Lady Techster Softball Team.  She graduated with a B.S. in Accounting, only later discovering her love for coaching.  She received her teaching degree in Texas from Region 10.  Roberta is happily married to Chuck, and they have two children, Rachel and Grant.

 

Coach Jones is looking forward to an exciting softball season and is proud to be a part of the Lady Cat Coaching Staff.

 


 

Assistant Coach-Bobbie McAdoo

Middle School Teacher

 Bobbie graduated from Tom Bean High School in 1975 and received a full basketball scholarship to Tyler Junior College and Sam Houston State University. After graduating from SHSU, she worked as an Assistant Basketball Coach for one year for SHSU. Following her work at SHSU she was the Head Basketball and Track Coach at Allen High School for two years. In 1982 Coach McAdoo moved back to Tom Bean and has been teaching and coaching. Since coming home she served as head coach for Basketball, Softball, and Track at Tom Bean. Under Coach McAdoo’s leadership she has had individuals and teams that have participated at state playoffs in Basketball, Softball, and Track. She has had a happy and long lasting marriage to Wendyl McAdoo. They have one son Russell, a stepdaughter, and one stepson. Her hobbies include anything outdoors and sport related.

 

 “I have a wonderful family, one brother and two sisters. My mom and dad have always supported me through everything I have done. Now that my son has graduated I am very excited to assist Coach Cherry with softball.”
