E.T. Spills on Volleyball Life

Compared to the rest of the sports at Tom Bean ISD, volleyball is certainly the youngest. With four years under its belt, the volleyball program is still running strong, despite limited success. But that hasn’t stopped Senior Erin Tidwell from enjoying all four years of the Lady Cats’ newest competition.

So, what is involved in this sport? What must our beloved players go through to achieve success? One thing is for sure: it’s not an easy sport to master. Tidwell says that the hardest part for her is, “Putting it all together. It takes a bump, a set, and a hit (spike). You must be constantly moving.”  All of this work must take hours of time to figure out. So, what’s the training like?

“It’s certainly hard, but we have a good time. Coach Hodgson is a pretty funny lady. And when we run, we know it’s so we can get better. But, this year we’ve done more drills and worked on the technical part of the sport more than the physical.”

Again, sounds like a lot of training and work. So surely, all of this practice can lead to great team chemistry. Right?

“The team really comes together. Not just in volleyball, but in other sports, too.”

So, great team chemistry, inspiring coaches, and intense training sessions about sum up what the 2007 Lady Cats volleyball program is about. Should we be looking towards a potential break-out season for you and the rest of the squad?

“I would hope so, but it’s a tough district. After four years of playing, most of the girls know more about the sport now, and I believe that this group of girls will put it together. Plus, we have the determination. We all want to win.”

Superb response, Miss Tidwell. I, along with the rest of the school, am looking forward to a successful season in volleyball. Show your support for the Lady Cats as they continue to strive for greatness in Tom Bean’s newest game.
