Sherman-
The TCS Lady Eagles defeated the Tom Bean Lady Cats in their season opener
18-25, 25-21, 13-25, 12-25. Despite the solid efforts of Makenzie Jones with
32 digs, 2 ace serves and a 100 percent serving effort, the Lady Cats could
not overcome a bad passing night. The Lady Cats less than stellar passing
performance could not produce an offense and left the Lady Cats on the
defensive for most of the night. The Lady Cats did get outstanding
performances at the net from sophomore Ashley Selman with 7 kills and 12
blocks with 5 solo blocks crashing to the floor.Amber Davis chipped in 5
kills as the Lady Cats closed out the night.
When I looked at the starting line up on the floor tonight I realized we
have two seniors, two juniors and two sophomores. At any given time of the
night there could be as many as 3 sophomores and two juniors, and one senior
on the floor. Our seniors are fulfilling a big role as leaders on the team
and it is going to take every game up until our district contests begin in
order for us to establish a rhythm and a chemistry together. The Lady Cats
are returning only four varsity players from a squad that totaled twelve
last year at it's peak. I am very proud of these girls and their efforts. It
takes an incredible amount of courage and bravery to take on new positions,
which is exactly what most of our seniors are doing. The Lady Cats will be
back in action against 3A foe Van Alstyne. Match times will begin at 5:00 in
Van Alstyne with JV Orange - JV Black and Varsity will follow, respectively.
Thank you for supporting our girls. We look forward to seeing you at the
games. Our first home match will be Aug. 26th versus Dodd City.
