Mr. Matherly has been teaching since 2000 and has been with Tom Bean ISD since 2004. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and in 2009 with a Master's Degree in Education.
 
Mr. Matherly lives in Denison with his wife Kellie and two children, Jay and Robin.
