Susan Bohannon |
Ms. Bohannon comes to Secondary Education as a second career, after spending 20+ years in the Early Childhood field teaching and managing educational programs. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development in 1983 from the College of Saint Benedict in Saint Joseph, Minnesota and minored in Spanish. Ms. Bohannon’s certification area is Languages Other Than English-Spanish, Secondary Level. She has been teaching Spanish at Tom Bean High School since 2007. Ms. Bohannon began learning Spanish in public school in the 2nd grade, continuing to take Spanish as her foreign language through her sophomore year in high school, at which point due to her early start, she had completed all the Spanish classes that were offered. Ms. Bohannon brings to the high school setting her knowledge and understanding of how children grow, mature and learn, and uses this knowledge to create a classroom atmosphere that is supportive and appreciative of what each student brings to the learning experience. Ms. Bohannon incorporates group learning, games and hands-on activities much of the time in order to stimulate student interest in learning the concepts necessary for success in learning a foreign language. At the same time, she has high expectations for student participation in their own success and to provide positive support of each classmate in their individual attempt to learn and to be at home in the classroom. The Spanish department is excited about the upcoming school year and looks forward to helping each student appreciate learning a new language. |
